📚 What is Weather?

Weather is what the atmosphere is like at a certain time and place. The atmosphere is the air around the Earth. Weather can change very quickly, like going from sunny to rainy in just a few minutes! It includes things like temperature (how hot or cold it is), if it's raining, snowing, or sunny, and how windy it is.

🌡️ Elements of Weather

  • ☀️ Temperature: How hot or cold the air is. We measure it with a thermometer.
  • 🌧️ Precipitation: Any water that falls from the sky, like rain, snow, sleet, or hail.
  • 💨 Wind: Moving air. We can feel it blowing and sometimes see it moving things like leaves.
  • ☁️ Cloud Cover: How much of the sky is covered by clouds.

🌍 Why Does Weather Change?

The sun heats different parts of the Earth differently. Warm air rises, and cool air rushes in to take its place, creating wind. Water evaporates (turns into a gas) and forms clouds. When the clouds get full of water, it falls back to Earth as precipitation.

🧭 Tools to Measure Weather

  • 🌡️ Thermometer: Measures temperature.
  • 🌧️ Rain Gauge: Measures how much rain has fallen.
  • 💨 Wind Vane: Shows the direction the wind is blowing from.
  • 🎈 Anemometer: Measures wind speed.

🗓️ Weather vs. Climate

Weather is what's happening right now or over a short period. Climate is the average weather in a place over many years. For example, a place might have a warm climate, but still have cold weather sometimes.
