📚 Lesson Objectives
After this lesson, students will be able to:
- 🌍Identify at least three ways human activities impact the Earth.
- 🌱Explain how pollution affects plants, animals, and people.
- 💡Suggest simple actions they can take to help protect the environment.
🖍️ Materials
- 🖼️Pictures or videos showing environmental issues (deforestation, pollution, etc.)
- 📝Worksheets with fill-in-the-blank questions.
- 🎨Coloring pencils or markers.
- ♻️Recycled materials for a craft activity.
☀️ Warm-up (5 minutes)
Start with a quick brainstorming session:
- 🙋Ask: "What are some things we use every day that come from the Earth?" (e.g., water, food, wood).
- 🗣️Discuss briefly how using these things can sometimes affect the Earth.
🌱 Main Instruction (20 minutes)
1. Deforestation
- 🌳 Show pictures of forests and explain how trees help us breathe by producing oxygen.
- 🪓 Explain that when we cut down too many trees (deforestation) to make paper, build houses, or create farms, it reduces the amount of oxygen and destroys habitats for animals.
- 📝 Ask: What are some things made from trees? How can we use less paper?
2. Pollution
- 🏭 Discuss different types of pollution: air pollution from cars and factories, water pollution from dumping waste, and land pollution from litter.
- 🐟 Explain how pollution can make animals sick and harm their homes.
- ⚠️ Show examples of polluted areas and discuss the importance of keeping our environment clean.
3. Overfishing
- 🎣 Talk about how some people catch too many fish from the ocean, which is called overfishing.
- 🐋 Explain that this can make it hard for fish populations to recover and can affect other animals that rely on those fish for food.
- 🌍 Discuss the importance of sustainable fishing practices.
4. Climate Change
- 🔥 Explain that burning too much coal, oil, and gas to power our homes and cars releases gases into the air that trap heat.
- 🌡️ Discuss how this can cause the Earth to get warmer (climate change), leading to melting ice, rising sea levels, and extreme weather events.
- 💡 Emphasize simple things they can do to reduce energy use, like turning off lights and using less water.
✏️ Assessment (10 minutes)
Worksheet Activity:
- ❓ Provide a worksheet with questions like:
- 🌳What is deforestation and how does it affect animals and people?
- 💧Name two types of pollution.
- 🐠Why is overfishing bad for the ocean?
- 🌡️What is climate change, and what causes it?
- 🌱What is one thing you can do to help the planet?
- 🖍️ Allow students to color a picture related to environmental protection after completing the worksheet.
