π What is Pollution?
Pollution happens when harmful things are added to our environment. The environment includes the air, water, and land around us. When these things get dirty, it can hurt plants, animals, and even us!
π― Learning Objectives
- π± Define pollution in simple terms for Grade 2 students.
- π§ Identify the main types of pollution (air, water, and land).
- π Explain how pollution affects living things and the environment.
- π‘ Discuss simple ways to reduce pollution.
π Materials Needed
- πΌοΈ Pictures or drawings of clean and polluted environments.
- ποΈ Crayons or colored pencils.
- π Whiteboard or chart paper.
- π§ͺ Clear containers with water, soil, and air samples (optional).
βοΈ Warm-up (5 minutes)
- π£οΈ Ask students: "What makes you happy when you go outside?" (e.g., clean air, clear water, green grass).
- βοΈ Write their answers on the board.
- β Then ask: "What things make the environment not so nice?" (e.g., smelly air, dirty water, trash).
βοΈ Main Instruction
-
π¨ Air Pollution
- π Explain that air pollution is when the air gets dirty from things like smoke from factories and cars.
- π Show pictures of cars and factories releasing smoke.
- π£οΈ Discuss how air pollution can make it hard to breathe and can hurt plants.
-
π§ Water Pollution
- ποΈ Explain that water pollution is when trash and chemicals get into rivers, lakes, and oceans.
- π Show pictures of polluted water with trash and dead fish.
- π£οΈ Discuss how water pollution can hurt fish and other animals that live in the water, and make the water unsafe to drink.
-
π± Land Pollution
- π― Explain that land pollution is when we throw trash on the ground instead of in the garbage can.
- π Show pictures of land with lots of trash on it.
- π£οΈ Discuss how land pollution can hurt plants and animals that live on the land.
-
π‘ How to Help
- β»οΈ Talk about ways to reduce pollution, like recycling, using less water, and walking or biking instead of driving.
- π Have students draw pictures of ways they can help reduce pollution.
β
Assessment
- β Ask students questions like: "What is pollution?", "What are the different types of pollution?", and "How can we help reduce pollution?"
- π¨ Have students draw a picture of a clean environment and a polluted environment, labeling the differences.
