Diversity means that we are all different! It's like a box of crayons – wouldn't it be boring if every crayon was the same color? Diversity includes things like where we come from, what our families are like, what we believe, and what makes us special. It's about all the ways we are unique!
People have been different for as long as there have been people! But sometimes, people haven't always appreciated those differences. There have been times when people were treated unfairly because of their differences. Learning about diversity helps us understand why it's important to treat everyone with kindness and respect, no matter what.

As second graders, you're learning about the world around you. Understanding diversity helps you become more open-minded, accepting, and kind. When you appreciate diversity, you make the world a better place for everyone! It helps us learn from each other, make new friends, and celebrate all the things that make us unique. You're all special, and your differences make our classroom (and the world) even better!
