β‘οΈ Why Was the Lightning Rod Important?
Before the lightning rod, lightning could strike buildings and cause fires. Benjamin Franklin wondered if there was a way to protect buildings. He did an experiment with a kite and a key during a thunderstorm (but don't try this at home!). This helped him invent the lightning rod, which is a metal pole that attracts lightning and sends it safely into the ground.
π Why Were Bifocals Important?
As people get older, it can be hard to see things both far away and up close. Benjamin Franklin invented bifocals, which are glasses with two different prescriptions in them. This way, people could read a book and then look up and see something far away without changing glasses!
