📚 Understanding Place Nouns for Grade 1

A place noun is a word that names a place. It tells us "where" something is happening or where someone is. Think about all the different places you go in a day – your home, the school, the park, a store! All of these words are place nouns. Learning to spot them helps us understand sentences better and describe our world more clearly. When you read a sentence, ask yourself: "Is there a word here that tells me a location?" If there is, you've found a place noun!

For example, in the sentence "The dog ran in the yard," the word "yard" tells us where the dog ran, so "yard" is a place noun. In "My mom works at the office," "office" is the place noun. These words are super important for building strong reading and writing skills! 🗺️

✍️ Part A: Vocabulary Challenge

Draw a line from each Place Noun to its correct Definition.

Place NounDefinition
🏡 HouseA. A place where you can buy things.
🏫 SchoolB. An outdoor area with grass, trees, and often a playground for recreation.
🌳 ParkC. A building where people live.
🛒 StoreD. A building where books are kept for people to read or borrow.
📚 LibraryE. A place where children go to learn.

📝 Part B: Fill in the Place Nouns

Read the story below. Fill in the blanks with the best place nouns from the box.

🤔 Part C: Think and Share

Think about your favorite place to visit. What is it? Why do you love going there? Describe it using at least two place nouns.

  • 💡 Example: My favorite place is the beach! I love to build sandcastles near the ocean.
