📚 Understanding Author's Purpose: Entertain, Inform, Persuade
As young readers, it's super important to understand why an author writes a story, article, or poem. This "why" is called the Author's Purpose! It helps us understand the text better and enjoy reading even more. There are three main reasons an author might write something: to Entertain, to Inform, or to Persuade.
When an author wants to Entertain, they write stories, jokes, or poems to make you laugh, feel excited, or just have fun. Think of your favorite fictional book! If an author wants to Inform, they write to teach you something new, give facts, or explain how something works, like a science textbook or a news article. Finally, when an author wants to Persuade, they try to convince you to believe something, do something, or agree with their opinion, like an advertisement or a letter asking you to recycle.
