π Discovering Supporting Details: Your Grade 4 ELA Guide!
Supporting details are super important in reading! Think of them as the special clues or reasons that help explain the main idea of what you're reading. Every story, article, or paragraph usually has one big idea, and supporting details are the sentences that give you more information, examples, or facts to make that main idea clear and believable. They often answer questions like 'who, what, when, where, why, and how' about the main point.
For Grade 4, learning to spot these details helps you understand texts much better. When you can find the main idea and then pick out the sentences that support it, you become a stronger reader and writer. Itβs like building a strong house: the main idea is the roof, and the supporting details are the sturdy walls holding it up! Without good supporting details, the main idea might not make sense or feel complete.
