๐ฏ Objectives
- ๐ Students will be able to identify the top and bottom of various objects.
- ๐๏ธ Students will be able to use the terms 'top' and 'bottom' correctly in describing the position of objects.
- ๐ง Students will be able to differentiate between 'top' and 'bottom' in a variety of contexts.
๐ Materials
- ๐งฑ Building blocks
- ๐งธ Stuffed animals
- ๐ฆ Boxes of different sizes
- ๐ Books
- โ๏ธ Pencils and crayons
- ๐ Worksheets with pictures of objects (see assessment section)
Warm-up Activity (5 minutes)
- ๐ Greet the students and have them sit in a circle.
- ๐ต Sing a simple song with actions, such as "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes," emphasizing the 'top' (head, shoulders) and 'bottom' (knees, toes) of their bodies.
- ๐ฃ๏ธ Ask students to point to their 'top' (head) and their 'bottom' (feet).
Main Instruction (20 minutes)
- ๐งฑ Building Blocks Demonstration: Place a building block on the table. Ask: "Which part is on the bottom?" "Which part is on the top?" Have students point to the top and bottom. Stack another block on top. Explain, "Now this block is on top of the other block."

- ๐ฆ Boxes and Books: Show a box. Explain which side is the 'top' and which is the 'bottom'. Place a book on top of the box. "The book is on top. The box is on the bottom." Remove the book and place it under the box. "Now the book is at the bottom and the box is on top!"
- โ๏ธ Pencils and Crayons Activity: Have students hold a pencil. Ask them to point to the top and the bottom. Then, have them place the pencil on top of their worksheet and then under their worksheet to reinforce the concept of top and bottom in relation to another object.
