📚 Topic Summary
In first grade, we're learning all about stories! Two important parts of any story are the characters (who the story is about) and the setting (where and when the story takes place). Sometimes, authors give us clues about these things using pictures! By looking closely at the illustrations, we can learn more about the characters' feelings and what the place looks like.
For example, if we see a picture of a girl with a big smile playing in a sunny park, we know the character is probably happy and the setting is outdoors on a nice day. So let's practice reading picture clues!
📖 Part A: Vocabulary
Match the word with its meaning. Draw a line between the word and its definition:
| Word | Definition |
|---|---|
| Character | The time and place where the story happens. |
| Setting | Hints or pieces of information. |
| Clues | A person or animal in a story. |
| Illustration | To find out by reasoning; to figure out. |
| Infer | A picture or drawing. |
✍️ Part B: Fill in the Blanks
Read the paragraph and fill in the missing words using the words from Part A.
The _________ in the story was a brave knight. The _________ was a dark forest. The _________ helped me understand the story better. I had to _________ what was happening based on the _________ in the book.
🤔 Part C: Critical Thinking
Look at the picture below (imagine a picture of children playing happily on a beach). What can you tell about the characters and the setting? Write one sentence about each.
