📚 What is Weather?

Weather is what the air outside is like at a certain time and place. It can change from day to day, or even hour to hour!

  • 🌡️ Temperature: How hot or cold it is outside. We use a thermometer to measure temperature.
  • 🌧️ Precipitation: Any water that falls from the sky, like rain, snow, sleet, or hail.
  • 💨 Wind: Moving air. Wind can be gentle like a breeze or strong like a storm!
  • ☀️ Sunshine: The light and warmth we get from the sun. It makes us feel good!
  • ☁️ Clouds: Water droplets or ice crystals floating in the sky. They can be puffy, thin, or dark.

🌍 Why Does Weather Change?

The weather changes because of the sun and how it heats different parts of the Earth. The amount of sunshine a place gets, the wind, and the water nearby all affect the weather.

📝 Weather Tools

Scientists use tools to measure the weather:

  • 🌡️ Thermometer: Measures temperature.
  • 🌧️ Rain Gauge: Measures how much rain has fallen.
  • 🧭 Wind Vane: Shows which direction the wind is blowing from.
  • 🎈 Weather Balloon: Carries instruments high into the atmosphere to gather data.

🗓️ Different Types of Weather

Here are some examples of different types of weather:

Weather Description
Sunny Bright sky with lots of sunshine.
Rainy Water falling from the sky.
Snowy Frozen water falling from the sky as snowflakes.
Windy Air moving quickly.
Cloudy Sky covered with clouds.

🧪 Fun Weather Experiment

Make a Cloud in a Jar!

  • 💧 What you need: A clear jar, hot water, ice, and hairspray.
  • ⚙️ Instructions: Pour a little hot water into the jar. Spray a little hairspray inside. Place ice on top of the jar's opening. Watch a cloud form!
  • 💡 Why it works: The hot water evaporates and the hairspray provides particles for the water to condense on, forming a cloud when it cools from the ice.
