๐ Topic Summary
A topic sentence is the most important sentence in a paragraph! It tells the reader what the paragraph is going to be about. Think of it as a mini-summary of the whole paragraph. A good topic sentence is clear, concise, and captures the main idea. It's usually the first sentence, but sometimes it can be found elsewhere in the paragraph. The rest of the sentences in the paragraph should support and explain the topic sentence.
For example, if your paragraph is about why dogs make great pets, your topic sentence might be: "Dogs make wonderful pets because they are loyal, playful, and offer companionship." The rest of the paragraph would then give examples of why dogs are loyal, playful, and provide companionship.
